How do I setup a wireless connection?

Setting Up a Wireless Connection

 The main differences between a wired setup using cables attached to each device, and a wireless setup are:

  • A wireless router will be needed to send a signal to each computer.
  • A wireless adapter or a wireless card will be needed for each computer you want to be wireless

The main basic setup steps are:

  1. Make sure the cable modem's coaxial cord is attached to the modem 
  2. Connect the router to the cable modem using an Ethernet cord
  3. Connect one computer or device directly to the router to setup the initial connection
  4. Once the computer and router have recognized each other, try to get online
  5. If the PC cannot get online, call the ISP's tech support number and ask them to help you refresh the connection.
  6. Be sure to tell them there is a router on the network.
