How can I prevent webmail from timing out?

Time Out Prevention for Webmail

Webmail is set to time out after the user has been logged in for over 6 hours. If the user thinks he or she will be out of the house or away from the PC for longer than that amount of time and have a message he or she is working on, the user can click the Save message button and it will save the message and put it into the drafts folder.  That way, the message will be saved and can be send it out at a later time incase webmail times out.

If the user gets a webmail error saying time out exceeded when he or she first tries to login to webmail, it could be an issue with the security settings blocking cookies from the webmail site. There are a couple of steps that can be done to try to resolve the issue:

  • Inside Internet Explorer, click on the Tools menu, and select Internet Options.
  • Inside Internet Options, click on the button Delete Cookies and Delete Files.
  • On the Security tab, for all four sections: Internet, Local Intranet, Trusted Sites, and Restricted Sites, set the security to default by clicking the button Default Level.
  • On the Privacy tab, set the slider to Medium.
  • Click Apply and OK to save the settings in Internet Options.
  • Restart the PC and try to login again.

If still receiving the time out exceeded error, contact the ISP's technical support.
